Sleaford Mods are lads, and Key Markets is about as “East Midlands” as you can get. The only disappointment is the beats, which lack depth and imagination. Luckily, Jason Williamson more than makes up for it with cutting, incisive observations about the world around him, tinged with a hue of humour (“Cunt Make It Up” the perfect example).
Fighting, angst, and anger defines this record, and anyone disillusioned with suburban life can find solace in the realisation that they’re not alone in their pain and suffering.
The album was critically acclaimed, although sinfully overlooked by much of the music press. The Guardian even listed it as the 29th best record of the year.
