Reid was born in the South Bronx, and grew up in Queens, New York. As a radical jazz artist, Steve Reid played with an extraordinary group of artists, including Miles Davis, Fela Kuti and James Brown. 'Nova' was the first in a series of stunning independent records Reid released in the 1970s.
