1957's 'East Coasting' was the result of some of Charles Mingus's less well-known band sessions, in which the legendary jazz bassist was joined by his regular collaborators Clarence Shaw, Jimmy Knepper, Shafi Hadi and Dannie Richmond as well as the ingenious pianist Bill Evans. Featuring dazzling individual performances that push the boundaries of bop, this is a real hidden gem of Mingus's output.
